THE Road Haulage Association is encouraging its members to use tachograph charts before they become compulsory in January, 1982. If charts are used now in conjunction with conventional log books, drivers will be familiar with tachograph proceedures by 1982 according to RHA southern area secretary Albert Simpson.
The RHA feels that in some areas such as Hull, Liverpool and London, the use of charts before they become compulsory will be discouraged by unions and •that some "militants" may refuse to handle vehicles using them.
By using charts now, says the RHA, drivers are able to get accustomed to the new procedures whilst still relying on the usual logbooks.
Meanwhile, only one or twc RHA southern area memben are using the RHA's chart analysis service which has been available for about a month.
