• The Freight Transport Association has welcomed the Government's decision to improve the A7 in Scotland, but says the decision to monitor traffic growth on the Al does not go far enough.
The FTA is also disappointed that the planned fast link between the M74 and the M8 will need private finance, implying road tolls. Scottish regional director Bob Armstrong says: "The FTA objects to the proposed detrunking of the A702 if the fast link road is to be built using private finance. Members would be particularly concerned if Sir David Steel's suggestion of access restrictions for HGVs on the detrunked road was taken up, virtually forcing lorries to pay tolls."
