SWEDISHTRUCK GIANT Scania is to acquire the truck and bus distribution system of Cimpornovel Veiculos Pesados SA.
Cimpomovel Veiculos Pesados SA, which reported sales of £49m in 2006, operates a Portugal-wide sales and service network from six dealerships with 250 employees.
Hans-Christopher Holgersson, head of sales and services on Scania's executive board, says:"The transaction means we are taking a step further in the value chain. It also opens the way for greater coordination with our distribution network elsewhere in Europe and thus greater synergies."
He adds:"The aim with this acquisition is to further improve the support to the Scania customers in Portugal by meeting their need for a broad range of services."
With 500 trucks sold last year, Cimpomovel Veiculos Pesados SA had a 13% share of the Portuguese market.
