THE proposed route for a further seven miles " of the North Cheshire motorway (M56) have been published as a draft scheme by the Minister of Transport. It deals with the eastern section of the motorway, starting at Wythenshawe, in Manchester, and extending to a point near Bowdon, in Cheshire.
This section will eventually form part of a 30-mile motorway from Wythenshawe to the A5117, west of Hapsford. The proposed route starts at a connection with Princess Parkway (A5103) and Altrincham Road (A560) at Wythenshawe and ends at a point to the south of Bowdon, with slip roads connecting it to a new roundabout which will be constructed at the junction of A56 and A556.
Work on the new motorway is expected to start in 1968.
