• A truck carrying British beef finally left UK shores this week following the EU's decision to lift its 29-month ban. The lorry, belonging to Cornish firm St Merryn Meat and carrying 50kg of fillet steak, was destined for a celebration meal in Brussels organised by the Meat and Livestock Commission. The news will give hope to the many hauliers hit hard by the beef ban such as Northantsbased Baker Group Distribution which had to reinvest and take on new markets (CM3-9 June).
The ELI-Imposed worldwide ban was introduced three years ago in the wake of the BSE crisis in the UK.
