pilot project called SETPOS (Secured European Truck Parking Operational Services). Championed by Danish MEP Anne Jensen and Dutch MEP Corien Wortmann-Kool, the project secured €5.2m of EC funds to invest in five flagship truckstops at the following locations: • Ashford (United Kingdom) • Valenciennes (France) • Warnit2 and Uhrsleben (Germany) • Liege (Belgium) At Label's launch last year. Jensen told CM: "It's very important that transport users invest in secure parking areas. After all, it's their high value goods that are being transported. It astonishes me that they insist on security for local employees, even inCluding iris scans, but they are prepared to let their goods go halfway across Europe without proper security" The next step is a truck parking conference in Brussels on 25-26 October, hosted by the EC and the EU's Belgian Presidency, to look at ways to improve security, availability and quality of parking areas for HGVs along the trans-European road network. The results of Label's certification of parking areas will be unveiled at this event.
