ARECENTLY patented device is the Hercules combined trailer safety bar and coupling-pin lock. The bar bracket is fitted into position on the fore cross-member of the trailer frame. No extra work is required after the first adjustment of the bar to length, as it then automatically comes into place with the drawbar when coupling up. The pin is then dropped into position and the locking plate, which holds it so that there is no possibility of its jumping from the coupling, is pulled over. The appliance is then ready for use on the road.
Should the drawbar break, the safety bar, which normally takes no strain. automatically comes into operation and keeps the trailer in track. It is claimed to be able to haul a fully
loaded trailer with ease. The clearance in the drawbar hole and the play allowed for the safety bar ensures that it shall not have to take any weight except in an emergency. This movement is taken up by buffer springs be tween the bracket and the safety bar. Adjustment to suit the length, of the drawbar is provided, as is shown in the accompanying drawing. The safety bar can be drawn up and fastened to the trailer when not in use. This well designed fitting is marketed by Mr. J. A. Martin, Forest Works, 131, .Whipps Cross Road, Leytonstone, London, E.11, and should prove very useful, particularly as a coupling-pin lock.
