HAVING co-operated with larger "operators in the provision of a £1,600 anti-gas treatment depot for the cleansing of vehicles contaminated by mustard or other gases in the event of enemy attack, Bradford Corporation is giving encouragement and help to smaller operators in this phase of civil defence. " The central depot is available for all vehicles in the city, but it is felt , that the concerns which made contributions towards meeting the cost should have a prior claim. . The suggestion has, therefore, been made to smaller operators -that, as a safeguard against congestion, they should make alternative arrangements for the decontamination of their vehicles should the occasion arise when this becomes necessary,
The -municipality is providing training in vehicle-decontamination methods at evening classes held twice weekly in Eastbrook Hall, Bradford.
Bradford Corporation was a pioneer in the •provision of vehicle-cleansing facilities in co-operation with operators. As the civil defence regulations place upon large transport operators a specific responsibility to make provision .for decontamination of their vehicles, the Director of Cleansing, Mr. H.
Hinchliffe, 0.B.E., approached k,auliers, passenger-vehicle operators and C-licence holders with the sugges. tion that a co-operative scheme would
save expense. It was decided that operators should contribute at the rate of £1 per vehicle towards the cost or the 'central depot: The participating operators, including Bradford passertger Transport Department and six other municipal departments, total 28, representing a total of 650. vehicles.
