A LOWER COST version of the Ultralite tipper body, manufactured in high-tensile Corten steel instead of in aluminium, has been introduced by Neville Industries (Mansfield) Ltd.
This 'version was developed in response to the demand for a body which could be repaired more easily by small tipper operators with ordinary oxyacetylene welding equipment.
The body shell is formed by U-form box section perimeter frames at front and rear linked by deep top rails and integral chassis-width runners welded direct to the main floor.
In return for the benefits oi ease of repair and initial cost the steel construction inevi. tably has an unladen weighi penalty. The body weight or the first example—a 6m (20f 6in) long body on a Somme eight-wheeler—is 1.37 tonne! (I tan 7cwt). This is approxi mately half a ton heavier thai the equivalent alloy version.
