THIS Foden tractive unit (above) with Gardner engine and Foden I2-speed gearbox
is hauling a 60 ft. long semi-trailer built by the operators, McKelvie and Co. Ltd., of Barrhead. Built for indivisible loads, the semi-trailer has an automatic-steering rear bogie which enables it to negotiate turns with easeāthe trailer having been designed by Mr. James McKelvie, managing director, before he left the company. Mr. McKelvie left by mutual agreement with the owners, Transport Development Group, and there has been an operational reorganization in recent months. The old company is now split into McKelvie and Co. (Transport) Ltd., operating from the Paisley, Manchester and London depots, with Mr. W. K. Easton as executive vicechairman and Mr. W. Knox as managing director; and Strathclyde Transport Services Ltd., operating from the Motherwell and Walsall depots, with Mr. F. Caraher as managing director.
