• The decision by Seatrain Lines Inc to switch all container operation between the UK and USA from Southampton to Greenock will result in a substantial increase in traffic for the Clyde Port Authority's £2.5m container cargo terminal. This becomes the company's sole British base for container operation and will provide fast turnround, deep-water working at all states of the tide. Negotiations for the move have been proceeding for some two years.
