Will .1 BETZ CEO Thomas Betz has been confronted in court by witnesses who spoke out against his initial statement, in which he denied charges against him.
He claimed the Bulgarian drivers, whom the prosecution allege were illegally employed, were employed by Betz'sBulgarian sister company SOMAT and did not just take orders from the firm's German HQ in Reutlingen.
A statement from one of his managers has thrown this into contention, as she claims she was given instructions on passing out false information.
She was apparently told to verify that all Bulgarian drivers were employed with SOMAT, although, according to her, some were employed in Germany..lhe judge also read out a passage from a set of instructions given to drivers, which told them to lie during vehicle checks and hide parts of their documentation.
Thomas Betz insists that these matters will be cleared up once other witnesses have made a statement. The case continues.
