• If you want to get rich quick avoid the transport industry, concludes a survey of UK managers' salaries.
Transport and warehousing managers earn an average of £29,397 a year—nearly £4,000 below the UK average, according to a survey by the Institute of Management.
Last year transport managers' pay rose by an average of 4.3°6; the UK average was nearly 5%. Transport managers lag well behind their counterparts in banking, finance and insurance.
Peter Stevens of Remuneration Economics, the research organisation which conducted the survey, says: "The lower salaries for transport managers reflect their lower place in the company pecking order. Unless someone is very fortunate or prepared to be very patient they they will not make a fortune in this area."
