DRIVER AGENCY Driver Hire is developing a diagnostic tool to measure drivers skill levels and attitude behind the wheel. The Driver Hire Safety Centre incorporates GPS and a gyroscopic sensor attached to the dashboard to measure 0-force in 100 manoeuvres such as reversing, overtaking and cornering. lt then produces a detailed driver profile.
Drivers are allocated 'skill' and 'attitude' levels indicated by a traffic light system, enabling managers to highlight those in need of further training or discussion.
Driver Hire will use the tool internally to assess its own agency drivers but will also customise the system for its corporate customers.
"We're expecting this to be of interest to our national account customers, but it could be as useful to small fleets," says national sales manager Andy Lightfoot. "Drivers who are hard on brakes or exit corners quickly are more likely to have a bump, and will also use more fuel and cause More wear on engines.'
The Driver Hire Safety Centre has been developed with telematics specialist Driver Diagnostics. Data is fed back to the Driver Hire server and profiles can be accessed via the internet. "It's a proactive system that will help drivers and help drivers to be self-aware," Lightfoot adds.
Prices have yet to be fixed but the company is open to discussions with any firm that feels it could benefit.
