Euro-4 TVidlum
THE FIRST EUROPEAN examples of the Euro-4 Midlum are creating a stir on the Renault stand. The new models have an allnew Euro-4 driveline. Five and seven-litre AB Volvo Dxi Powertrain engines are rated at 160, 190 or 220hp between 7.5 and 16 tonnes, and at 240 or 280hp on the 18-tanner. Torque is substantially increased to 580Nm at 1,200-1,700rpm, compared with 510Nm from the old Dci range.
New ZF five or six-speed manual boxes feature the first dash-mounted shift in this sector. "It's a new product from the ground up," says product manager Darren Brown. "Moving the gearshift gives better ergonomics and it will be less tiring to drive."
The cab is essentially unchanged from last year's Midlum revamp apart from minor tweaks including a silver headlight surround. The 7.5-tanner starts at £32,000 but prices have not been set for the heavier models.
