SINCE establishing a depot in Birmingham in January, the turnover of the Atlas Express Co., Ltd., in the Birmingham area has been increased by 80 per cent., and the opening, last week, of the new Lawden Road depot, to which all the traffic has now been transferred, has enabled parcels handling to be organized more efficiently.
The building is a Boulton and Paul prefabricated dutch barn 30 ft. deep, and provides a total loading length of 105 ft., in addition to space for offices. A radius of 15 miles is covered by the 10-vehicle fleet, and deliveries to destinations outside that area up to a distance of 50 miles are made by vehicles under contract.
Trunk vehicles operated by the concern run nightly from Birmingham to London, Manchester, Dunstable, Nottingham and Leicester. Loads for Glasgow are sent by road to Leicester, where they 'are transshipped to rail containers.
