JOYCE WILSON is the brains of a new owner-driver haulage firm set up by her husband, Carl, with an Atkinson Borderer and three semi-trailers bought from NorthEastern British Road Services. He took up the company's offer to sell vehicles to drivers when the Consett branch was closed and to employ them as subcontractors.
His big problem was the Certificate of Professional Competence. So he sent his wife to night school and after a tenweek course she qualified. Now who wears the trousers? carried 60 passengers with Frank sitting on a mudguard — and he, they say, was the driver!
