ERF's biggest-ever entry into heavy haulage market is this 6 x 4 tractive unit plated for 100 tonnes gross operation. The vehicle was designed to meet the needs of customers carrying indivisible loads and needing a police escort.
The ERF — designated 99 C3 6 x 4 — was built at the request of Leicester Heavy Haulage, but the specification has now been added to the range of ERF "production" vehicles at a list price of £52,500.
ERF anticipates that most of, the 100-tonne-chassis sales will be operators in South Africa, the Middle East and New Zealand.
The power unit is a Cummins NTE 350 driving through a 20speed Dana-Spicer SST 1420-3A gearbox to Kirkstall D80-14-2 axles. The legal requirements in the UK limit the maximum road speed of this type of vehicle to 19km/h (12mph).
The rear suspension is Henrickson RS 700 using rubber as the actual suspension medium.
