FIGURES computed at the Motor Show by Kysor Industrial indicate that fitting the company's radiator shutters could cut an average of £664 from a vehicle's annual fuel bill.
This was the result of an analysis of 13,432 vehicles involved in a wide range of duties and covering most types currently on the roads.
Details of annual mileages and type of use were collected from 130 operators who ranged from owner-drivers to managers of fleets up to 2,000 strong.
The total potential savings for these operators, according to Kysor, are 31,134,925 litres (6,849,684gal) a year.
As these vehicles represent only three per cent of the total number in service in the UK, Kysor argues that the total savings on a national basis could be as high as 1,036m litres (228mgal).
The average saving of £664 would pay for the cost of installing a radiator shutter in approximately 14 weeks, claims Kysor.
