So far the system seems to be holding up — largely, we suspect, because most German and Dutch operators have gone down the OBU route so there isn't a huge volume of vehicles stopping at border crossings. Indeed, BAG officers seem to be mainly targeting British, Belgian and French trucks as they know there's a slim chance they will have an OBU fitted. But if you're a British driver hoping to pay in cash we'd advise you to avoid it — there's only a handful of machines that take currency and most of them seem to be al fresco. Oh, and its infinitely more expensive than the old Euro Vignette.
