PRICES PLUMMET
Older, lower-powered tractive units are continuing to plummet in value, according to a price guide editor.
Robert Reed, heavy trucks editor at CAP Commercial Vehicle Price Guide, suggests that now more than ever the only option some dealers may have is to break them up for spares.
"A cab can fetch as much as £4,000 where it would achieve only £1,500 as a complete tractive unit," he says.
SURREY SALES
British Car Auctions is now holding monthly truck sales at its Blackbushe, Surrey site. Only vehicles directly entered from major fleets and leasing companies are being offered.
Nearly 90% of the vehicles at the first sale were sold, with 7.5-tonners well to the fore. A 1994 Mercedes 814 curtainsider on an L-plate went for £7,000, while a 1995 Leyland Daf 45.150 curtainsider on an M-plate fetched £5,250. A 1995 lveco Ford 75E15 tipper on an M-plate was sold for £7,300.
