• The Sun Alliance and London Insurance Group is to introduce a new Commercial Vehicle Policy on July 1. This "plain English" policy will, it is said, replace a variety of existing agreements, increase the -no-claims" discount and also automatically provide passenger cover.
Although the policy form is simplified, it covers all types of vehicles and takes into account the Transport Act and the Plating and Testing Regulations. The new rating structure provides for a gradual transition to premiums assessed on gross plated weight and use of vehicles.
The Group's Commercial Vehicle Policy now automatically extends . to provide the following cover: legal liability to passengers, increased third-party damage limit of £100,000, legal costs including manslaughter and negligence of passengers.
Windscreen claims up to £50 will not affect the no-claims discount which is revised as follows: 1 year 10% discount (previously 10%), 2 years-20% (previously 15%), 3 years-30% (previously 20%).
There will still be a slight variation in coverage rates for different areas, but the district rating for heavy, long-distance haulage vehicles has been abolished.
