• The Transport Manager's Licence Committee proposals to the Ministry of Transport are now likely to be delayed for a further few weeks. A working party set up by the committee to look at the administration of the proposed TML system will not report back to the main committee before It had been understood that delays in committee had been caused through the Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association having been in dispute over what are described as relatively minor points. However, this week Mr. George Newman, director-general of the RHA, said allegations that there was a dispute were "absolute rubbish". Progress, in his opinion, had been remarkably good and only one minor point remained outstanding on the subject matter already discussed.
Mr. D. H. Joyce, chairman of the TML committee, who is transport licensing adviser to Shell-Mex and BP Ltd., retires from Shell-Mex at the end of June. He told CM: hope to continue as TM L committee chairman until its immediate function is fulfilled."
Mr. L. J. Evans. assistant to Mr. Joyce at SheIl-Mex, continues as TML committee secretary.
