• Ford of Britain has announced a £10m expansion programme for its four-year-old factory in Swansea -involving an additional 1,000 jobs by the autumn of next year.
The plant, which now employs 1,500 people, manufactures chassis parts and machines rear axle components for the entire Ford car and commercial vehicle range.
The new operations will occupy two adjacent buildings, covering 371,000 sq.ft.. formerly operated by the King's Dock Works and the Elba Tin Plate Company and purchased by Ford in 1966.
Last week Ford announced an £18m expansion plan to its Dagenham engine plant, taking Ford investment, since 1953, to well over £400m.
