the advantage of rapidly "pumping" the brake pedal on wet or icy roads to prevent wheel locking. I have heard that a device has been evolved that provides automatic pumping of the brakes with normal application of the pedal on the part of the driver. Can you supply any information regarding such a device?
AThe report of the Road Research Labora
tory, No. LR164 1968, refers to tests of. a car fitted with a device of the type you mention. It is stated in the report that it prevents loss of control when the brakes are applied whether the vehicle is travelling on a slippery or dry road surface. On a slippery road it enables the stopping distance to be reduced by 10 per cent, but on a dry surface having a high coefficient of friction it increases the stopping distance by 10 per cent.
