THE F.E.C. Commission has asked the French Government why it is failing to apply the Community provisions on the free movement of workers to the transport and communications industries. The Commission considers this an infringement of the provisions of the Treaty of Rome.
The French attitude is understood to be that the detailed obligations which the Treaty imposes in the transport sector mean that this industry is automatically excluded from the more general labour and employment provisions which apply to other sections of the economy.
