ASUGGESTION that the new road signs should be introduced at the same time as any change is made in the rule of the road has been turned down by the Ministry of Transport. They have told the County Councils Association that it would not be practicable.
The Ministry state: "No decision has yet been made about such a change but studies show that the greatest cost would be that of modifying buses and coaches to have their entrances and exits on the right-hand side. The simplest and cheapest way of doing this would be to have an interim generation of vehicles which could be entered from either side and to introduce these gr;dually as existing vehicles reach the end of their useful life (about 12 years) ".
From decision to actual switch might be 15 years, says the Ministry, and the signs can't wait.
