THOMAS Nationwide Transport, the Australian parent of Inter County Express and TNT Overnite, made a profit of A$40.82m (122.9m) in the half year to last December 31.
This represents a 57 per cent increase in after-tax profit, and was helped by increased market penetration into the United Kingdom by the parcels express subsidiaries. Revenue and profits in this sector were well above those for the previous period, TNT reports. Overall profits for the group for the first nine months of the financial year are expected to be substantially ahead of the previous year, although TNT reports that trading conditions worldwide are likely to remain difficult.
