rental could be the answer, especially if their existing vehicles don't meet the minimum requirements.
John Lewis, the director-general of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) says: With a £200-a-day charge being levied for a pre-Euro-3 vehicle, the numbers just don't add up. You can rent a truck for considerably less than this, so why would you want to pay more?
"It's worth remembering that the fine for not paying the daily charge is a whopping £500, which increases to £1,000 if it isn't paid within 14 days. It's a no-brainer really.
"Regardless of what you think about the LEZ, everyone has a right to trade in and out of London. But the level of that trading may well not justify investment in .a Euro-3 or later, vehicle. The answer then is short-term rental. It's cheaper, it uses a more
fuel-efficient vehicle, and it's better for the environment," he says.
