JOINT SERVICE SOUGHT
A PPLICATION has been made by rA the transport departments of Wigan and Bolton Corporations to run a joint service between Wigan and Bee Hive
Mills. This service was run jointly before the war, but Bolton did not hold a road-service licence. The service is at present operated entirely by Wigan Corporation.
A 40,000-MILE AIR TOUR
,n1,JRING his 40,000-mile business 1—/ tour by air, Mr. Henry Spurrier, managing director and general manager of Leyland Motors, Ltd., who returned to this country this week, visited South Africa, Australia, N e w Zealand. America and Canada.
The object of the tour has been further to develop exports by extending facilities for the assembly of Leyland chassis overseas, and by establishing special arrangements for the local supply of commercial-vehicle bodywork.
DISCUSSION AT LUTON
I EADING local operators in Luton last week discussed cost recording, vehicle maintenance and tyre care. The occasion was an event sponsored by Tyresoles, Ltd., and is, we understand, likely to be the precursor of .a series of similar functions, to be held in different centres. On this occasion the speakers were H. Scott Hail, M.I.Mech.E., M.I.R.T.E. (S.T.R. of "The Commercial Motor"), who dealt with the first and second items, and Mr. K. Dean (of Tyresoles, Ltd), who started the discussion on the third.
About 40 of those present took part in the discussions which followed.
