THE BUILDERS of the Bingley bypass, who promised to complete the road by the autumn, say they are being criticised because many locals don't realise that autumn lasts until it's almost Christmas.
A spokesman for Amec. which heads the A650 relief road project near the West Yorkshire town,says signs telling drivers to expect the road to open in "autumn 2003" had led some to believe that the road would be taking traffic already.
He 'adds; -Our contract is actu ally to complete the project by next March but we did say that we would have it done by the autumn and we still expect to do that. It's obviously good if we can get it done a bit early The problem has been that many people don't think of autumn lasting until 21 December."
The new road is being keenly awaited because it will provide an alternative route for 30,000 vehicles which crawl through Bingiey everyday.
