• xford tops I• Autogas service provider Calor's claims are more extreme than the British Lung Foundation's and it states Oxford residents breathe in the equivalent of 61.4 cigarettes a day due to poor air quality caused by traffic pollution.
The Tinsley viaduct on the MI at Sheffield is 11th on Calor's list of most polluted areas, with residents breathing in the claimed equivalent of 20 cigarettes a day. And councillors in nearby Rotherham have called for the government to look at the impact on air quality of its plans to widen the motorway.
Councillor Reg Li ttleboy says:-Air quality is an important issue for people's health and for the economic and social wellbeing of the area. Given that the MI is a major source of pollution, we want to see more research into the proposals to widen it and how a 55mph speed limit could affect air quality."
