Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

W company has been formed,

and a factory established, for the exploitation and demonstration in this country of the Erren hydrogen engine and Pressure electrolizer. Known as Burlins Industrial Laboratories, Ltd., the concern has installed, at Albion Works, 49, Grayling Roan, Lordship Road, Stoke Newington, London, N.16, a stationary engine running on. hydrogen, and will shortly put down an electrelizing plant.

The engine, which we have inspected and seen running, was originally a Krupp 20 b.h.p. single-cylindered compression-ignition power unit running on the two-.stroke cycle. It has been con

verted for use with hydrogen, at present supplied from cylinder.

Practically the sole alterations that have been made are the reduction of the compression ratio from 15 to 1 to 11 to 1, the addition of an electric ignition system, and the provision of a special valve for the control of the hydrogen supply. We are informed that an output of over 30 b.h.p. can now be obtained, the r.p.m. being about 350.

In our presence the engine was started up, by compressed air, firing immediately hydrogen was admitted. Except for the mechanical noise of the valve gear, which is partly exposed for demonstration purposes, there appeared to be practically no other sound. The exhaust was almost invisible, and appeared clean and practically odourless.

The concern, we understand, intends shortly to convert the engine of a road vehicle and make demonstrations with this ; it does not intend to manufacture, but to sell licences to manufacturers who wish to employ the Erren principle.
