• Highway Trailers Ltd has introduced a single-axle version of its D. H. Morgan Hydro-Couple low-loader, which in common with the company's two-axle loader enables front loading by using powered hydraulics to retract and extend the forward trailer legs.
The trailer is plated at 24 tons gtw, can carry a 14-ton payload, and is available with lower platform lengths of 20 or 24ft. Mainframe construction comprises two 12in. by 5in. I-section main members and two 72in. by 3.5in. rolled steel channel section outer beams. The inner beams are pierced to receive continuous rolled-steel channel and joist cross-members. The fifth-wheel sub-assembly incorporates a detachable kingpin.
Rubery Owen running gear, With S-cam brakes, and a three-line air system are used; 10.00-20 16 PR tyres are fitted as standard.
Three power options are available to actuate the lifting legs: air over hydraulic, the air being obtained from the tractor air brake system; an independent diesel engine mounted on the rear of the trailer; and the third option is a battery power pack which stows away under the chassis at the rear of the trailer.
