ERF has started production of its new "M" series. The first vehicles off the assembly lines are 16-ton rigids.
• Two engine options are available — a derated version of the familiar 6LXB Gardner and an engine new to automotive use, the Dorman 8F V8.
The Gardner produces 120kW (160bhp) at 1,850rpm while the Dorman produces 112kW (151bhp) at 2,200rpm with a maximum torque rating of 540Nm (3981bft) at 1,60Orpm.
The gearbox is a remotemounted David Brown unit used in conjunction with a 356mm (14in) twin dry-plate Lipe Rollway clutch.
Two wheelbases are available for the "M" series. The longer at 4.75m (15ft 7in) permits a body length of 6.1m (20ft) while the other allows 7.3m (24ft) of body for a 5.55m (18ft 2in) wheelbase.
The familiar "B" series cab has had a piece taken out which allows a mounting 127mm (5in) lower than the original. The engine has been mounted further back and lower which has resulted in a "walk-through" type of interior. Dunlop 70-series low profile tyres are standard equipment.
