AHINT that the Thames Valley Traction Co., Ltd, would have to cut some unremunerative services was
given at a sitting of the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners last week.
The company, faced with increased wages and other costs totalling 194,525 a year, were asking for a revision of fares on their stage carriage services.
The Commissioners were told by Mr. J. R. C. Samuel-Gibbon, for the company, that a number of objections lodged earlier by local authorities had all been withdrawn.
Mr. T. G. Pruett, general manager of the company, said that the revised fares asked for would bring in £86,300 a year, giving a return on capital employed of no more than 6.33 per cent. He thought that extremely modest. "We are always on the look out for economies," he said.
Mr. J. A. Stevenson, traffic manager, said that 32 per cent. of their stage carriage mileage, and 50 per cent, of the individual services, were unremunerative.
The application was granted.
