• Animal rights terrorists are alleged to have been behind an arson attack at a York farm on 15 July which destroyed two tractive units.
Keith Abercrombie, who runs the livestock transporter from Heslington in York, was alerted by a milkman to the early morning attack. The two Volvo units had been doused in flammable liquid and were totally destroyed although trailers attached to them are being repaired. They were parked outside the farm on the open trackway when the attack took place.
A note, allegedly from animal rights activists, was left at the scene of the incident.
Abercrombie is still counting the cost of the attack: "The insurers have agreed to pay £18,500 for the tractors," he says, "but I don't know how much the trailers will cost to repair. They are the only vehicles we operate and replacing them will be expensive."
