SEVERAL British lorry drivers were among those expected home earlier this week, after being held up by protests on the border between France and Spain.
Spanish lorry drivers operated a five-day blockade on the La Junquera frontier, following attacks on their vehicles by French farmers. Ten Spanish lorries were set on fire, and reports indicate that farmers tried to lock the drivers in their cabs.
According to the International Road Transport Union, up to 1,500 lorries were help up along with 2,500 other vehicles, and several loads of perishable goods had to be destroyed.
British and other operators were making arrangements to send vehciles through the !run frontier on the west coast, but they could only wait for the La Junquera hold up to clear before vehicles in Spain could return.
