• Esarco vehicles, based on Land Rover components, are now being built to MoD standard 05-21 by Laird (Anglesea) Ltd.
Twelve of its highly-mobile eightand six-wheel-drive vehicles were exhibited at the BAEE.
All have a box section chassis frame with the One-Ten drivetrain assemblies, suspension, steering and brakes, but use 31+15.5 15 8PR low ground pressure tyres.
One unusual version of the Esarco was an amphibious carrier which had been purchased by a Nigerian customer and is one of the few such carriers built in Britain since World War Two.
Beneath the hull is a standard Esarco 8 x 8 drive arrangement for overland travel, but water-born propulsion is by a 560mm diameter propeller behind and above the rear axle. This is driven direct from the rear of the gearbox on a shaft running on watertight seals.
