Eve been diagnosed with diabetes does this mean I can no longer work as a professional driver?
The answer depends on how serious the diabetes is and how it is being treated. If the diabetes is being treated with insulin you will have to go to a consultant for assessment before any decisions are made. People who do not have an LGV licence and are already on insulin are barred by law from driving LGVs.
If the diabetes is managed by tablets you might be able to retain your licence. This depends on whether you have a diabetic eye problem affecting visual acuity or visual fields.
If the diabetes is managed by diet alone there is no need to notify the DVLA, unless it starts affecting your vision.
