ERIC SHORTLAND has retired as chairman and managing director of Coventry based Morton's (British Road Services), more than 30 years after he first joined the company.
His position will be taken over by Allan McPherson, managing director of Midlands BRS, a position he retains in the new post.
Mr Shortland joined Morton's in 1948. In 1950 he became assistant transport manager, followed quickly by his promotion to transport manager and later transport director.
In 1965 he became group transport director and in 1972 was made chairman and managing director.
Mr McPherson began his career in road transport with Road Services (Caledonian) in 1958. He became manager of Midlands BRS's Bromford Mills depot in Birmingham in 1977, followed by his appointment as area general manager. He became managing director in 1981.
