Commencing with gas-producers, these have now established quite a sound reputation in France, and are usually employed with charcoal, a fuel which is very abundant in that country. Several types are in the Exhibition, and although each has its characteristics so far as size, the distribution of the various elements and methods of washing and cleaning are concerned, yet practically all embody the fixed components of a gas generator (with which is usually combined a heater for the water), a purifier and a drier.
