THE new Praga V3S six-wheel-drive 1lorry, made in Czechoslovakia by the IVIotokoy undertaking, is shown on Stand 103 by L. C. Rawlence and Co., Ltd., 3 Queens Road, Eat Grinstead. Sussex. Payload for normal road work is 5 tons, hut for cross.country running is 3 tons. The direct-injection oil engine is a six-cylindered in-line air-cooled unit with bore and stroke measurement of
4.33 in. and 5.12 in. respectively, the same as the makers' V12 product. Swept volume is 7.1 litres.
Peak output of 98 b.h.p. is developed at 2,100 r.p.m., whilst maximum torque of 262 lb.-ft. is produced at 1,400 r.p.m. An average fuelconsumption rate of 10.44 m.p.g. is claimed. Power is transmitted through a conventional clutch to a gearbox with four forward ratios and reverse, and a reduction gearbox with two ratios. The axles are doublereduction units, those of the rear bogie having lockable differentials.
There is a power take-off on the reduction gearbox for a winch, which is designed to exert a pull of 3 tons on a cable 180 ft. long. A band-type hand brake acts on the drum of the reduction gearbox. The foot brake actuates an air-pressure system, a twin-cylindered compressor being provided.
