Corporation transport department increased in 1961-62 for the first time in 12 years. During the year, the department carried 2,500,000 more passengers than in 1960-61. The department showed a surplus of £20,000 after paying off the last of the tramway debt and making provision for renewal of buses and other necessary capital expenditure.
The total revenue for the financial year ended on May 28 last was 14,478.785 compared with £4,214,865 the previous year, an increase of 1263,920. The number of passengers carried was 212,337,802, compared with 209,755,409 the previous year, an increase of 2,582,393. Total mileage run was 25,933,602 compared with 25,776,535 the previous year. an increase of 157.067.
