• Australian low-loader specialist Brentwood Trailers has devised an ingenious answer to the problem of variablewidth loads.
Some UK trailers are avail able with extending-floor designs, but Brentwood's lowloader takes a different approach: it gets wider. Two chassis rails with integral loadbeds and running gear are joined by sliding-box crossmembers; one at the rear and one between the tapered swanneck members. A pivoting device at the point of the taper allows the whole chassis to be widened or closed up hydraulically. The width can extend from 2,500mm to 4,265mm in 300mm increments.
Nearly all Brentwood trailers are custom made with various wheel and suspension configurations, including beam and spring, air and hydraulic layouts, but they all feature BP4V fixed and steering-axle equipment. Brentwood is one of Australia's foremost lowloader manufacturers; it sells into most countries on the western Pacific Rim.
