THE Scottish Bus Group are operating a policy which is a "recipe for disaster" and at the same time causing anger and frustration to the public.
This is claimed by Kirkcaldy and District Trades Council who have written to Fife Regional Council with a two-pronged " solution " to escalating costs and diminishing service. They also ask for " offpeak " inducements in the way of reduced fares, flat-rate fares at certain times, cheap hospital and school fares and a contribution to public service transport from companies who benefit from the provision of commuter services.
Their first proposal is a long-term plan for an integrated public transport ser vice embracing road and r and involving local authoriti and major industries "on scale not yet foreseen."
In the short term the trad council call for an immedia review of the W. Alexand bus company in Fife to pi vent "a further deteriorati. of local services"; a 12-nion fares freeze; and a review time-tabling.
