f't of the Symington, Lanark, depot of the Road Haulage Executive was presented in the House of Commons, last week, by Mr. Patrick Maitland.
It contends that in breach of pledges made to Mr. Maitland by Maj.-Gen. G. N. Russell,. chairman of the R.H.E., and Lord Hurcomb; chairman of the British Transport Commission, hardship will be caused and road safety endangered by the Executive's decision to close the Symington depot and transfer nine lorries to Carfin.
The petition further submits that Lord Hurcomb refused to receive Mr. Maitland on the matter. and that the removal of the vehicles would add two or more hours to the men's travelling time. It prays that the decision will be reversed.
Mr. Maitland is the new Conservative member for the Lanark constituency.
