FIAT AND GENERAL MOTOR (GM) are poised to collaborate on the next generation of small vans to replace the Fiat Doble Cargo and Vauxhall Combo.
Fiat van boss Pier-Luigi Zanframundo reports that talks between Fiat and GM about potential joint ventures were specific to the van sector: "There are opportunities with GM, but up to now nothing is decided," he adds.
Fiat recently extended its contract with Peugeot and Citroen for the joint development and production of medium and heavy vans through to 2017, but this leaves Fiat free to collaborate in the light van sector.
• Fiat has added a new 1.3-litre diesel engine to its Dohlii Cargo van range. The 70hp. 16-valve Mullijet engine will be available in the UK from May.
