No. 4. The Causes of Bead Failure
SURPRISING number of tyres In• fail at the bead, mostly through causes which are well within the control of the driver or operator. This loss can be avoided if note be made of the possible sources of injury. It is important to remember that the bead of a wired tyre is its means for anchorage to the rim. Therefore, it must be firm and almost inflexible, not resilient and mobile, like the rest of the tyre. Consequently, it becomes the pivot point on which the rest of the tyre works." A smooth and perfect fit between bead and rim is, therefore, absolutely necessary. Any irregularity will lead to severe chafing and ultimate destruction.
