• Big trucks should be taxed more heavily to encourage hauliers to move to smaller vehicles, says a report by 21 local authorities in the SouthEast.
The report, by South East Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS), explores ways of reducing congestion and pollution. It calls for "a major shift in duty from smaller vehicles to the heaviest in the short-term. In the mediumterm there would be taxation on use".
SEEDS also says that goods vehicle regulations need to be tightened with more power given to local authorities.
